The Inbetweeners is a British coming-of-age sitcom created and written by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, following four suburban teenagers through the humiliations of sixth form at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive. Simon Bird stars as Will McKenzie, a well-spoken former private school pupil who arrives on his first day with a briefcase and quickly falls in with the lovesick Simon, the boastful Jay and the dim but good-natured Neil. Running for three series on E4 between 2008 and 2010, the show grew from a modest cult hit into one of the most successful British sitcoms of the century, with the opening episode of its third series drawing the biggest audience ever for an E4 original commission, followed by two hugely successful feature films.

Will McKenzie
Played by Simon Bird
The narrator: a clever, briefcase-carrying former private school pupil who moves to Rudge Park after his parents' divorce. He is the most sensible of the four, yet usually suffers the worst humiliations.
Simon Cooper
Played by Joe Thomas
The most cynical and hot-headed of the group, prone to bursts of furious swearing. His hopeless, on-off pursuit of Carli drives many of the plots, and he drives the boys around in his yellow Fiat.
Jay Cartwright
Played by James Buckley
The crudest of the four, a compulsive liar forever boasting about sexual conquests that never happened. His bravado is partly explained by a father who constantly belittles him.
Neil Sutherland
Played by Blake Harrison
Gentle, gullible and slow on the uptake, Neil believes almost all of Jay's lies. Thanks to his laid-back nature, he is also the most successful of the group with girls.
Mr Gilbert
Played by Greg Davies
The sarcastic head of sixth form, who has little interest in his job and treats his pupils with open contempt. He takes a particular dislike to Will.
Carli D'Amato
Played by Emily Head
Simon's long-time crush, a popular girl who knows exactly how he feels about her and strings him along when it suits her.
Charlotte Hinchcliffe
Played by Emily Atack
The most popular girl at Rudge Park, a year above the boys, who briefly and improbably goes out with Will.
